Johanna Winant, an assistant professor in the West Virginia University Department of English, has accepted a distinguished fellowship at the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Notre Dame to work on her book project.

The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is pleased to announce the induction of its 2018 class of scholars into Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honor society for the arts and sciences. 

A record number of West Virginia University students have been named Fulbright Scholars this year, doubling the previous record of five.

West Virginia’s poet laureate and the winner of the prestigious Drue Heinz Literature Prize will be instructors at this summer’s West Virginia Writers’ Workshop. The workshop, in its 22nd year, will be held on West Virginia University’s downtown campus from July 19 to July 22.

West Virginia University English professor Stephanie Foote has been named one of the 2018 Andrew Carnegie Fellows for her work related to cultural production in and around the Anthropocene, the geological epoch in which human activity has had a global effect on Earth’s climate and environment. 

As West Virginia seeks to re-imagine its future both economically and culturally, new skills beyond technical training will be necessary to generate innovative paths forward.  

WVU student researching social change in Appalachia

The  School of Social Work at  West Virginia University shot up into the top third in the latest rankings of graduate programs by  U.S. News & World Report.

The Department of English will host a reading by Nick Flynn on Thursday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the WVU Downtown Library's Milano Reading Room. 

Author Dennis Hinrichsen will give a reading as the West Virginia University Department of English’s2017-18 Virginia Butts Sturm Writer-in-Residence. He will read on Monday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the WVU Downtown Library’s Milano Reading Room.
