Every year, students from across Eberly College are selected as  Outstanding Seniors and  Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistants.  Eberly Scholars are also chosen annually for a monetary award to help offset the cost of their education as they work to achieve their academic goals. Sophie Slaughter, a native of Culloden and member of the Honors College, is the recipient of the prestigious annual award given to college juniors with exceptional leadership potential and a commitment to public service. Slaughter, a junior double majoring in history and women’s and gender studies, envisions a future where everyone has what they need to live safe, healthy and self-directed lives.

Education in Prison Initiative Improves Access and Equity in Appalachia

It’s 7:00 a.m. and WVU graduate student Destinee Harper is dressing carefully for a day of teaching. Nothing too tight or see through, no open-toed shoes, no jacket, no cardigan or shirt with pockets. She wants to make sure she is allowed in the classroom. “I think that was a big part of that first week, was [sic] making sure that we were abiding by these rules, that they would let us in and that they wouldn't have a reason to say, no, you can't come in and learn in this space.”  

Twenty undergraduate students from across the University to receive the competitive national award funded by the U.S. State Department to travel abroad without financial constraints. Twelve of those 20 students are studying in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.
