The Department of History and Department of English at West Virginia University will host the annual Rush D. Holt lecture on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m.

Jacinda Townsend, the author of “Saint Monkey,” a novel about two girls growing up in Eastern Kentucky’s African-American community after the Korean War, will be one of several nationally known writers who will read at the West Virginia Writers’ Workshop, to be held July 21-24 on WVU’s downtown campus.

Department of English Professor to retire

The Department of English will celebrate Professor Ellesa High’s retirement on Saturday, April 30 from 2:30-5:30 in 130 Colson Hall. A traditional native giveaway will be held at 3:00 p.m., followed by a potluck feast at 4:00. Carol Markstrom, Top Female Vocalist of the Year, Academy of Western Artists, along with Mother Earth Beat Drum will provide singing and drumming.

West Virginia University Associate Professor Katy Ryan has been named an Eberly Distinguished Professor of Teaching. The intent of the distinguished professorship is to retain and reward faculty of the highest quality.
