Erin Goodykoontz Recognized with Professor of the Year award
Erin Goodykoontz, a Teaching Professor in Eberly College’s School of Mathematical and Data Sciences, has been named 2023 Professor of the Year by the Faculty Merit Foundation of West Virginia.

Students from across Eberly have been named Outstanding Seniors, Outstanding GTAs and Eberly Scholars
Every year, students from across Eberly College are selected as Outstanding Seniors and Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistants. Eberly Scholars are also chosen annually for a monetary award to help offset the cost of their education as they work to achieve their academic goals. Read about all three groups below.
Katy Goodrich honored with prestigious NSF CAREER awards
Katy Goodrich, assistant professor of space physics, receives 2024 WVU CAREER award. She believes her research project will make space science more accessible to institutions with limited resources. For her project, she’ll design a CubeSat, or miniature satellite, mission to study the Earth’s auroral acceleration region.
DeKeseredy recognized with American Society of Criminology's Ralph Weisheit Lifetime Achievement Award
Sociology professor Walter DeKeseredy received the American Society of Criminology's Ralph Weisheit Lifetime Achievement Award on November 16 for his scholarship, teaching and service in the field of rural criminology.

WVU employees recognized with Boy Scouts of America national educator award
Jay Cole and Michelle Richards-Babb were recognized as the 2023 recipients of the Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award, presented to teachers, educational support staff and school administrators who instill Scouting values in their students.

Written in the stars: WVU astrophysicists set to receive Shaw Prize, the ‘Nobel of the East’
For Duncan Lorimer and Maura McLaughlin, working at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico set off a sequence of life events that would include marriage, children, finding a home at West Virginia University, an out-of-this-world scientific discovery and, now, earning a highly prestigious award described as the “Nobel Prize of the East.”

Eberly faculty awarded fellowship grants by the West Virginia Humanities Council
Each year, the organization awards $3,000 grants to a select group of teachers, college faculty and independent scholars to support research and writing projects in the humanities. The 2023 Humanities Council Fellows from Eberly College are Brooke Durham, Enkeshi El-Amin, Sean Lawrence, Austin McCoy, Mason Moseley and Devin Smart.
Eberly Astronomers Awarded Prestigious Shaw Prize in Astronomy
The 2023 Shaw Prize has been awarded to Astronomy professors Duncan Lorimer and Maura McLaughlin for the discovery of fast radio bursts (FRBs).
