Andrew Hartsog, a WVU history graduate, dedicated his life to making history, most notably during a 23-year career with the CIA as a paramilitary officer. Starting with Team Alpha, the first U.S. group to enter Afghanistan post-9/11, Hartsog’s career was filled with high-stakes missions and clandestine operations, earning him multiple Intelligence Stars and a Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal. Reflecting on his journey, Hartsog credits WVU's ROTC program and his upbringing in West Virginia for shaping his passion for service and national security, values he proudly carried throughout his career and continues to honor today.

Thirty-seven graduates were inducted as lifelong members into the WVU Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, a national honor society that recognizes outstanding achievement in the liberal arts and sciences and champions freedom of thought.

Every year, students from across Eberly College are selected as Outstanding Seniors and Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistants. Eberly Scholars are also chosen annually for a monetary award to help offset the cost of their education as they work to achieve their academic goals. Read about all three groups below.

Five Eberly College students will expand their horizons through study abroad experiences this spring, summer and fall after being awarded scholarships through the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program.

The department will occupy Chitwood Hall after operating out of Woodburn Hall since 1950.

Eight members of the faculty in Eberly College of Arts and Sciences have been recognized for their excellence in teaching, research and service.

West Virginia University has named Olivia Dowler, Sophia Flower, Rachel Johnson, Thomas Williams and Natalie Wonsettler the 2023 Mountaineers of Distinction, a Mountaineer Week tradition that recognizes exemplary academic achievement and extracurricular involvement.

Monday, October 16, at 5 p.m. in WVU’s Downtown Library — “Women Making History” is a collaborative exhibit that features sections written and curated by students in the WVU History department as well as faculty and staff from WVU Libraries.

Twenty undergraduate students from across the University received the competitive national award funded by the U.S. State Department to travel abroad without financial constraints. Twelve of those 20 students are studying in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

Each year, the organization awards $3,000 grants to a select group of teachers, college faculty and independent scholars to support research and writing projects in the humanities. The 2023 Humanities Council Fellows from Eberly College are Brooke Durham, Enkeshi El-Amin, Sean Lawrence, Austin McCoy, Mason Moseley and Devin Smart.
