Almost every 18 months, a total solar eclipse is visible to some part of the world. However, the United States hasn’t had a total solar eclipse since 1994. For the first time during the 21st century, a total solar eclipse, will be visible across the United States on Monday, Aug. 21. 

To help prepare the community for the “Great American Eclipse,” the West Virginia University Planetarium is hosting a pre-eclipse event from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 19.

The Department of English will host a reading by author Clare Beams on Monday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robinson Reading Room of the Downtown Campus Library.

Department of English Professor to retire

The Department of English will celebrate Professor Ellesa High’s retirement on Saturday, April 30 from 2:30-5:30 in 130 Colson Hall. A traditional native giveaway will be held at 3:00 p.m., followed by a potluck feast at 4:00. Carol Markstrom, Top Female Vocalist of the Year, Academy of Western Artists, along with Mother Earth Beat Drum will provide singing and drumming.

The West Virginia University Department of Sociology and Anthropology will host Dr. Bill Mase, associate professor at the College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University for a lecture titled “Rural Communities Access to Healthcare Services: People Policy, and Poverty” April 14 at 3:30 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center.
