Social Work and the Law: Law, Ethics and Professional Responsibility for Social Workers
In this School of Social Work "lunch and learn" seminar, Jennifer Powell, director of the center for law and public service at the WVU College of Law, will discuss ways in which ethics and professional responsibility intersect with the laws governing social workers. Specifically, participants will learn about the types of misconduct social workers can engage in, the consequences and how to better adhere to an ethical and legal practice. She will also provide information about the WVU College of Law and how to apply to the JD program.This event is open to social work students and community providers. You are welcome

About the Speaker
Jennifer Powell, MSW, JD, is the director of the Center for Law and Public Service
at the WVU College of Law. She has served in this role since March 2013. She previously served as the assistant
dean for career services from 2004 to 2013. Powell is a member of the West
Virginia State Bar. She earned a JD from the WVU College of Law in
1997, a MSW from WVU in 1992 and a BA in English from WVU in
1988. Prior to working at the College of Law, Powell worked as an application
consultant for LexisNexis, served as a prevention educator and community fundraiser
for Caritas House, a local HIV/AIDS service organization, and practiced
law with Regina Charon’s law offices.
