Leadership Studies

About the Minor

Students in the Leadership Studies Program  are part of a community committed to helping them develop through hands-on experiences and academic opportunities. This 18-credit hour interdisciplinary minor is designed to complement any major, with students representing every college at WVU. Approximately 200 students are enrolled, and we reach more than 400 annually through programs and classes.

About the Graduate Certificate

The first graduate certificate in leadership in the state of West Virginia offers working professionals innovative, research-driven courses with practical applications that will prepare you for the next stage of your career.  

If you entered the workforce before getting to take courses in leadership, our graduate certificate will meet your needs. Offered entirely online, our program provides a flexible curriculum that can be completed in as little as one year. 

Our courses will equip you to:
/ Enhance leadership capacity at work and in your daily life
/ Manage conflict and change 
/ Analyze organizational ethics and leadership practices
/ Assess a variety of leadership types and approaches 
/ Critique the role of leadership in shaping organizational culture and climate

How will I focus my studies?

Students in the undergraduate leadership studies minor can choose from courses in business, communication , entrepreneurship and other discipline  to customize their studies to fit their career goals. 

Courses in the graduate certificate begin by building foundational knowledge in core leadership theories and concepts, followed by developing an understanding of problems in the leadership system and how they are affected by leaders, followers and context. You will apply knowledge to specific cases, or work environments, by diagnosing problems and providing solutions.
