Federal Resume Resources
Applying for a Federal Position?
Federal resumes differ from traditional resumes and often require additional information. Before applying, carefully review the job announcement and follow the application instructions provided by the hiring agency.
How Is a Federal Resume Different?
- Federal resumes are typically more detailed than traditional resumes.
- Include detailed descriptions of work, internship, research, volunteer, or military experience.
- List start and end dates (month and year) for each position.
- Include the average hours worked per week for each position.
- Highlight relevant education, coursework, certifications, technical skills, and accomplishments.
- Tailor your resume using keywords from the specific federal job announcement.
- Many federal employers recommend using the USAJOBS Resume Builder.
