How We Help

For Parents and Families

Thank you for entrusting Eberly College with a part of your student’s journey. We recognize the important role families play in supporting students as they discover their interests, build confidence, and prepare for meaningful careers.

From the first semester through graduation, we help students explore their strengths, connect their education to meaningful opportunities, develop the professional skills employers are looking for, and create a future that reflects their goals. We look forward to partnering with you throughout your student’s college experience.

How we support your student

Our approach is built around four principles: Explore. Connect. Develop. Create.

Explore

Discovering interests, strengths and career paths

Connect

Building relationships with employers, alumni and faculty

Develop

Growing the skills employers value

Create

Launching jobs, graduate school and life after college

How families can help

  • Encourage your student to meet with Career Development during their first year.
  • Celebrate growth, not just outcomes.
  • Ask questions about experiences, internships, and goals.
  • Support your student as they make independent career decisions.
  • Encourage involvement in research, internships, campus employment, leadership, and student organizations.

Career coach tip

Encourage your student to book their own appointment. Taking that first step on their own is part of building career confidence.

Questions to ask your student

“What have you learned about yourself this semester?”

“Have you visited Career Development yet?”

“What career interests are you exploring?”

“Have you attended any employer or networking events?”

“What experiences do you hope to gain before graduation?”

About student privacy: Federal privacy law (FERPA) generally prevents our staff from discussing a student’s appointments or records with family members without the student’s written consent. The best way to stay informed is to talk with your student.

Share these with your student

The Four-Year Plan shows what to focus on each year, and booking an appointment takes just a few minutes in Handshake.
