Assessment Guidelines

Program Assessment Guidelines for the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences

In order to better assist Eberly programs, chairs and committees with their assessment expectations, this document provides a streamlined explanation of the assessment process and collects necessary resources into one place.

To be updated annually, the document aims to provide support for designing an assessment plan that fits each program’s needs, to create consistency across the college, and to provide guidance that will mitigate the time and effort it takes to respond to university requests. Once established, a consistent assessment process should create a firm basis to be used in support of a program’s greater mission and strategic goals.

All Eberly Programs should:

  1. Have an up-to-date and active assessment plan
  2. Conduct assessment activity each academic year
  3. Submit an annual report on assessment activities, programmatic goals, and the next steps in their assessment plan

The college recognizes that faculty-driven assessment is key to the quality of the student learning experience. Therefore, the college will convene an assessment committee comprised of faculty members across departments.

The committee will provide enhanced peer support for:

  1. Evaluating program assessment plans
  2. Discussion related to determination of program learning outcomes and program goals
  3. Creation of a comprehensive curriculum map and identification of long-term assessment cycle activities
  4. Working with the results of the current assessment cycle
  5. Any other support as needed
