Avatars and Their Players: From Object to Other

Communication studies professors Jaime Banks and Nick Bowman visualize their research on the experiences and effects of video gamers' connections with their avatars. This exhibit features a selection of prints and narratives from "100 Avatars," a digital project in collaboration with WVU Libraries. The digital collection features players' submitted images and stories, recounting their favorite memories with favorite video game avatars. These stories illustrate the impact avatars have had on their lives -- dispelling assumptions and myths about gamers and highlighting the ways that avatars can be meaningful in contemporary life.

This exhibition was developed by Arts in the Libraries, selected as the winner of the 2018 Faculty/Staff Exhibition Award. It will run Oct. 1-Dec. 30 in 1020 Downtown Campus Library.
