Samuel J. Leizear, Field Education Director for the School of Social Work, has been appointed to the State Family Protection Services Board (FPSB) by Governor Tomblin for 2016-2019. This Board is responsible for the approval, licensure and on-going monitoring of Family Protection Programs, Batterers Intervention and Prevention Program and Shelters.
Leizear’s appointment was recommended as a result of his more than 15 years of service on the WV Coalition of Domestic Violence (WVCADV) Advisory Council and providing education, training and technical assistance in the area of domestic violence within underserved populations, specifically lesbian, bisexual, gay, and/or transgender persons statewide.
His work in this area also earned him a WVCADV Purple Ribbon Award in 2006.
“I am both honored and humbled by this appointment, and am looking forward to working with this dynamic group of people toward the goal of decreasing violence and increasing sanctuary for all West Virginians,” Leizear said.
