WVU School of Social Work offers professional and community education workshops

The West Virginia University School of Social Work is offering the Spring 2016 season of professional and community education programs for social workers, counselors, and nurses who wish to earn continuing education credit.

Workshops will cover a variety of topics aimed to help human service providers stay up-to-date with new developments in their field as well as coping techniques.

Charleston/Beckley workshops:

 April 12 - “So Bad, the President Came: Addiction Basics and Trends,” 1-4 p.m., WVU-Charleston, Room 4020, Charleston. Registration Fee: $35 (early bird rate of $31.50 by March 18). 

May 13 - “Play Therapy + Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy = Dynamic Duo of Brain & Behavior Change,” 9 a.m.-4p.m., Beckley-Raleigh Convention Center, Carter Room, Beckley. Registration Fee: $65 (early bird rate of $58.50 by April 15).

Martinsburg/Moorefield workshops:

April 15 - “Mindfulness and Meaning: Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy,” 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Lackey Hall, Martinsburg. Registration Fee: $75 (early bird rate of $67.50 by March 18).

 April 26 - “Mindfulness and Self Compassion: Antidotes to Compassion Fatigue,” 9 a.m.-4 p.m., South Branch Inn, Moorefield. Registration Fee: $65 (early bird rate of $58.50 by April 1). 

May 18 - “’What Should I Do?’ Ethics of Boundary Extensions and Confidentiality,” 9  a.m.-4 p.m., St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Lackey Hall, Martinsburg. Registration Fee: $65 (early bird rate of $58.50 by April 22).

Morgantown/Clarksburg workshops:

April 1 - “Understanding Effects of Childhood Trauma on Parenting Behaviors,” 9 a.m.- noon, WVU Health Sciences Center, John Jones Conference Room, Room B (Room G285B), Morgantown. Registration Fee: $35. 

April 1 - “Groups as a Complement to Therapy,” 1-4pm, WVU Health Sciences Center, John Jones Conference Room, Room B (Room G285B), Morgantown, WV. Registration Fee: $35.

April 7 - “Solution-focused Therapy: Re-solving Problems through Exceptions,” 9am-5pm, Mountaineer Mall, OLLI Classroom B, Morgantown, WV. Registration Fee: $75.

April 8 - “From Welcome to Good Riddance: Spotting Employment Law Issues in the Nonprofit Organization,” 8:30-11:30am, Gaston Caperton Center, Room 149, Clarksburg, WV. Registration Fee: $35.

April 8 - “Social Networking and Social Work Management,” 12:30-3:30 p.m., Gaston Caperton Center, Room 149, Clarksburg. Registration Fee: $35.

May 4 - “Developing a Toolkit for Managing Nonprofit Ethics,” 9 a.m. - noon, Monongalia General Hospital, Mylan Room, Morgantown. Registration Fee: $35 (early bird rate of $31.50 by April 8).

May 4 - “Safety Concerns and Occupational Stress in Social Work: Creating a Safety Climate,” 1-4 p.m., Monongalia General Hospital, Mylan Room, Morgantown. Registration Fee: $35 (early bird rate of $31.50 by April 8). 

May 6 - “Caregivers: Lots You Need to Know, but Didn’t Know to Ask,” 8:30-11:30  a.m., Gaston Caperton Center, Room 148, Clarksburg. Registration Fee: $35 (early bird rate of $31.50 by April 8).

May 6, “Positive Attachment: How to Foster Attachment in Difficult Children,” 12:30-3:30pm, Gaston Caperton Center, Room 148, Clarksburg, WV. Registration Fee: $35 (early bird rate of $31.50 by April 8).

May 20 - “Adoption: The Search for the Missing Pieces to One’s Life Puzzle,” 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monongalia General Hospital, Mylan Room, Morgantown. Registration Fee: $65 (early bird rate of $58.50 by April 18).

 Wheeling workshops:

March 31- “A Day on Dementia: Some of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” 9am-3:15pm, WV Northern Community College, B & O Building, Room 312B, Wheeling, WV. Registration Fee: $60.

May 10 - “Borderline Clients: Dancing with Real vs. Imagined Abandonment,” 9 a.m. -4 p.m. WV Northern Community College, B & O Building, Room 316B, Wheeling. Registration Fee: $65 (early bird rate of $58.50 by April 15).
