Eberly College Commencement for Undergraduate Students
Sunday, May 14, 12:30-2:30 PM, WVU Coliseum
This ceremony is for Eberly College students who graduated in August 2016 or December 2016, and those who will completed their undergraduate degree requirements in May 2017.
Attention Prospective August 2017 Graduates: Students may be allowed to participate (walk) in commencement ceremonies if the college has sufficient evidence that the student is highly likely to complete all degree requirements in the academic term following the ceremony. The Eberly College considers "sufficient evidence" to be completion of 106 credit hours. Students who will not have completed 106 credit hours by the end of the Spring 2017 term should contact the Eberly College Undergraduate Studies Office for approval in advance of registering. email@example.com
Instructions for Participants
Undergraduate students who plan to participate in the ceremony should report to the Basketball Practice Facility behind the Coliseum at 11:30 AM to pick up their pre-printed Reader Card and line up for the processional. Faculty marshals will begin moving processional lines into position at 12:15 AM so it is important that students be checked-in and with their department before then.
Friends and family members of graduates should be seated upon arrival at the Coliseum and NOT follow their graduate to the student check-in and line-up areas which are quite congested.
A graduation gown and cap are required to participate in the ceremony. Official WVU regalia is available at the WVU Bookstore, or may be ordered online from Herff Jones http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/wvu/.
Tassels worn on the caps of Arts & Sciences students are color coded by degree being conferred. BA degree recipients and all MDS majors wear white, BS degree recipients wear yellow, and BSW degree recipients wear citron. Prior to the conferring of degrees, the tassel should be positioned on the right side of the cap.
Degree candidates will be lined up for the processional by major, then alphabetically by last name. University Marshals will lead the processional and seat faculty and degree candidates. University Marshals will cue degree candidates when it is time for them to rise and approach the stage for recognition. Degree candidates will hand their Reader Card to the Commencement Orator to the right of the stage, proceed across the stage (photo op) to receive diploma cover and handshake from the dean (photo op) and presiding University official. All degree candidates should return to their seat after walking across the stage. After the last graduate has been recognized and degrees are conferred by the presiding officer, students will be instructed to move their tassel to the left side of their cap, and the ceremony will conclude with an orderly recession.
Grad Images will be at the event to take several candid photographs of each graduate. Since photographs will be available, family members and guests are encouraged to remain in their seats and enjoy the ceremony. All students will receive digital proofs and order card via email 7-10 days following the ceremony. http://www.gradimages.com/
Students who applied for May 2017 graduation by the March 3 deadline date will be listed in the commencement program. Names of August 2017 graduates will be listed in the December 2017 Commencement program.
