Eberly College Commencement for Graduate Students

Sunday, May 14, 9:00-10:30 AM, WVU Coliseum

This ceremony is for Eberly College students who completed their doctoral or master’s degree requirements in August 2016 or December 2016, and those students who will complete their degree requirements and meet the following deadline dates for May 2017 graduation. 

March 3 – last date to submit online Application for May Graduation.

April 6 – last date to submit online Thesis and Dissertation Defense Date Declaration Form.  http://eberly.wvu.edu/students/graduate/graduation-forms-and-process

Instructions for Participants

Graduate students who plan to participate in the Commencement Ceremony should report to the  Basketball Practice Facility behind the Coliseum between 8:00-8:30 a.m. to pick up their pre-printed Reader Card and receive further instructions in preparation for the processional and ceremony.  

Friends and family members of graduates should be seated upon arrival at the Coliseum and NOT follow their graduate to the student check-in and line-up areas which are quite congested.

Academic Regalia

A graduation gown, hood, and cap with tassle positioned on left side are required to participate in the ceremony.  Official WVU regalia is available at the WVU Bookstore or may be ordered online from Herff Jones at http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/wvu/.

Degree candidates should carry (not wear) their hood to the ceremony as their faculty advisor will hood them during the ceremony.

Ceremony Information

Degree candidates will be lined up for the processional by program, then alphabetically by last name. University marshals will lead the processional and seat faculty and degree candidates. University marshals will cue degree candidates when it is time for them to rise and approach the stage for recognition. Degree candidates will be hooded by their advisor or designated faculty member (photo op) prior to receiving diploma cover and handshake from the dean (photo op). All degree candidates should return to their seat after exiting the stage. After the last graduate has been recognized and degrees are conferred by the presiding officer, the ceremony will conclude with an orderly recession.

Photography

Grad Images will be at the event to take several candid photographs of each graduate. Since photographs will be available, family members and guests are encouraged to remain in their seats and enjoy the ceremony. All students will receive digital proofs and order card via email 7-10 days following the ceremony.  http://www.gradimages.com/

Printed Program

Students who applied for May 2017 graduation by the March 3 deadline date will be listed in the commencement program. Names of August 2016 and December 2016 graduates were listed in the December 2016 Commencement program.
