Education in Prison Initiative Improves Access and Equity in Appalachia

It’s 7:00 a.m. and WVU graduate student Destinee Harper is dressing carefully for a day of teaching. Nothing too tight or see through, no open-toed shoes, no jacket, no cardigan or shirt with pockets. She wants to make sure she is allowed in the classroom. “I think that was a big part of that first week, was [sic] making sure that we were abiding by these rules, that they would let us in and that they wouldn't have a reason to say, no, you can't come in and learn in this space.”  

Twenty undergraduate students from across the University to receive the competitive national award funded by the U.S. State Department to travel abroad without financial constraints. Twelve of those 20 students are studying in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

Gwen Bergner, an associate professor of English in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, has been named West Virginia University’s Harriet E. Lyon Professor in Women’s and Gender Studies.

Bergner will serve a 2-3 -year appointment as Lyon Professor, during which she will teach and conduct research as part of the Center for Women's and Gender Studies.

Eberly College names first associate dean for social justice, faculty development and innovation

Maria del Guadalupe "Lupe" Davidson has been promoted to serve as associate dean for social justice, faculty development and innovation in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, effective Jan. 1, 2021. Davidson came to WVU in fall 2019 to serve as the Eberly College’s director and academic coordinator for social justice affairs and professor of women’s and gender studies.
