Dean, Eberly College of Arts and Sciences

West Virginia University (WVU) seeks a dynamic academic leader to become its next Dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. As the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer of the College, reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean is responsible for the leadership and management of all programs within the College. This individual should possess the leadership skills, organizational abilities, commitment, and energy needed to address the programmatic and technological challenges of the 21st century.

WVU was founded in 1867 as a result of the 1862 Land-Grant Act, otherwise known as the Morrill Act. WVU is proud of its flagship, land-grant University status, and its mission reflects its dedication to serving the state and citizens of West Virginia through access to higher education, research, and comprehensive health sciences. Two divisional campuses, Potomac State College of West Virginia University (PSC) and the West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVUIT), are located in Keyser, WV, and Montgomery, WV, respectively. A third divisional campus is planned in Beckley, WV.

The institution has 15 colleges and schools offering 193 bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and professional degree programs in agriculture, natural resources, and design; arts and sciences; business and economics; creative arts; dentistry; education and human services; engineering and mineral resources; journalism; law; medicine; nursing; pharmacy; physical activity and sport sciences; public health. Hundreds of distance education and online classes are available.

The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences is the largest College at WVU, providing 60% of all undergraduate instruction. Enrollment includes 6,350 undergraduate and 1,350 graduate students. The College has 415 full-time faculty and 98 classified staff in 23 academic departments, programs, and centers. Areas of emphasis can be broadly defined as the humanities, the natural and mathematical sciences, and the social sciences. The College is a nationally ranked leader in many areas including psychology, forensic and investigative science, public administration, creative writing, and communication studies.

  • Capacity and commitment to create relationships between the College, its alumni and stakeholders to advance the goals of the college, including fundraising
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of a Land Grant Institution
  • Credentials to qualify for the rank of professor with tenure in a department or discipline within the Eberly College

Additional qualifications include the abilities to foster interdisciplinary and intercollegiate collaboration, build supportive relationships beyond the university and incorporate international and entrepreneurial activities into the fabric of the College’s programs.


The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
