Classes offered at Shepherd University for eastern panhandle residents

Earn a master’s of social work (MSW) degree from West Virginia University’s Division of Social Work without traveling to Morgantown. Residents living in West Virginia’s eastern panhandle and the surrounding area have the opportunity to take classes on the campus of Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va. beginning this fall.

Students and helping professionals interested in pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work are invited to attend an information session on March 31 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg. WVU social work faculty and staff will present an overview of the program, be on hand to answer questions and help interested students apply on site.

The part-time program is designed to meet the needs of professionals currently working in the field. MSW students complete six graduate-level hours each semester, including summer, and classes are offered in evenings and on Saturdays in a variety of formats, including classroom instruction, distance education and on-line.

MSW applications are currently being accepted for the fall 2009 semester. Anyone who has obtained a bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) within the past 8 years is eligible to apply for Advanced Standing, a two-year, part-time MSW degree. Out-of-state residents living in Washington County, Md., and Frederick County, Va., are eligible for tuition discounts.

The Division of Social Work is housed in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at WVU. Both the BSW and MSW degree programs are fully accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.

For more information or to apply for the MSW program, contact Amy Hampton at (304) 876-5308 or (304) 707-6449 or Amy.Hampton@mail.wvu.edu.
